SMART/Fluoride Removal Water Pitcher Cartridge

SMART/Fluoride Removal Water Pitcher Cartridge

$21.00

You checked your water report and saw fluoride. Or you simply want a say in what is in the water your family drinks every day. A carbon-only pitcher filter cannot help with that: fluoride slips straight through ordinary carbon.

The SMART/Fluoride Removal Water Pitcher Cartridge is the fluoride water pitcher filter replacement for the Crystal Quest Water Pitcher Filter System. It pairs Crystal Quest SMART media with dedicated fluoride reduction media in one cartridge, so a single pitcher targets fluoride along with chlorine, chloramines and their by-products, inorganic compounds and heavy metals. It also reacts with water hardness to enhance alkalinity.

At a glance

  • Fluoride reduction in a pitcher: dedicated fluoride media that carbon-only pitcher filters do not have
  • SMART media on board: the same idea as our standard pitcher cartridge, targeting chlorine, chloramines and heavy metals
  • Fits the pitcher you already own: swap it in for the Standard/SMART cartridge, no new pitcher needed
  • Packs of 2, 4 and 6 so a fresh cartridge is always ready

What you are looking at

A slim pitcher cartridge with mesh inlet screens that presses into the bottom of your pitcher's reservoir and seals there, so every drop poured into the top has to pass through the media. Inside, SMART media and fluoride reduction media share one cartridge.

How a fluoride pitcher filter works

Why carbon alone leaves fluoride behind

Activated carbon is excellent at holding chlorine-taste compounds and many organic chemicals on its surface. Fluoride is different. It is a small, negatively charged ion that stays dissolved in water and does not stick to carbon. To reduce it, you need media chosen for that job.

Fluoride reduction media

Fluoride reduction media offer a mineral surface that attracts fluoride ions and holds them as water passes. Because that exchange needs time, a pitcher is a good place for it: water moves through by gravity, slowly, giving the media more contact with every glass.

SMART media

SMART is Crystal Quest's multi-media blend of copper-zinc redox alloy, ion exchange resin and activated carbon. Redox media reduce chlorine through an exchange of electrons, the resin captures dissolved metals, and carbon adsorbs the organic compounds behind off tastes and odors.

What it reduces

Primary target:

  • Fluoride

Also reduced by the SMART media: chlorine and chloramines and their by-products, inorganic compounds and heavy metals. It also reacts with water hardness to enhance alkalinity. No fluoride capacity has been published for this cartridge, so retest your filtered water if you rely on it for fluoride reduction.

Not designed to treat: bacteria and viruses, nitrate or total dissolved solids, and it is not for water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality. For arsenic, use the SMART/Arsenic Removal cartridge in the same pitcher. For fluoride at every tap, see Crystal Quest fluoride water filters.

Why Crystal Quest

  • One pitcher, five cartridge choices. Switch between standard, fluoride, arsenic, alkalizing and DI cartridges as your needs change.
  • Honest about the numbers. No fluoride capacity has been published for this cartridge, so we tell you to retest rather than guess. The linked test report covers the standard cartridge's chlorine reduction, and we say so.
  • Made in the USA. Over 1,000,000 people served since 1994, under ISO 9001 quality management.
  • Real help. Our water filtration team can help you read a water report and choose the right cartridge.

Where it fits

This cartridge, part number CQE-RC-04130, fits the Crystal Quest Water Pitcher Filter System in every pitcher color. Use it in place of the Standard/SMART Water Pitcher Cartridge when fluoride is your concern. Single, Pack of 2, Pack of 4 and Pack of 6 all contain this same cartridge.

Common questions

How is it different from the Standard/SMART cartridge?

It adds fluoride-reduction media to SMART filtration in a single cartridge, so it targets fluoride along with chlorine, chloramines and heavy metals.

How often should I replace it?

No fixed interval or fluoride capacity has been published for this cartridge. Replace it when taste, odor or flow changes, and retest your water if you rely on it for fluoride reduction. Actual life depends on feed water quality, system configuration and usage.

Is the linked lab report for this cartridge?

No. The IAPMO R&T Lab report covers chlorine reduction by the Standard/SMART pitcher cartridge (CQE-RC-04047) under NSF/ANSI 42. It does not test fluoride reduction or this cartridge, and it is not a product certification.

Which pitcher does it fit?

The Crystal Quest Water Pitcher Filter System, in any pitcher color. The pitcher manual calls for Crystal Quest approved cartridges only.

Does a regular pitcher filter remove fluoride?

Not a carbon-only one. Fluoride is a small dissolved ion that carbon does not hold. This cartridge adds dedicated fluoride reduction media for that job.

How do I know it is still reducing fluoride?

Retest. Fluoride has no taste or smell, so taste cannot tell you when the fluoride media is spent. Test the filtered water after you start a new cartridge and again over time, and replace the cartridge when the result no longer meets your goal.

Should I choose this or the Standard/SMART cartridge?

Choose this one when fluoride is your concern. If your goal is chlorine taste and odor, VOCs, THMs and heavy metals, the Standard/SMART cartridge is the everyday choice and has a published 2,000 gallon life.
